Testimonials for Focus MMA and Josh Lebsock

Dillon Saxhaug (Owner of Standup Fight Gear ©)
I've been around the fight game for quite some time and have had the opportunity to train with some of the biggest names in MMA. I can truly say that Josh Lebsock's technical knowledge is above and beyond anything I have experienced. Mr. Lebsock has the abilty to breakdown seemingly complex martial arts techniques down to their basic components and better yet has the ability to transmit this information to students at all levels in the game. Its my experience that most jiu jitsu and MMA instructors just tell you to repeat what they do and don't help you to truly understand what your doing. Josh doesn't teach you techniques, he teaches you to see for yourself, and this gives the techniques true power. Thank you Josh for taking my game to the next level.

Nathan Kleinfeld (Professional MMA Fighter, and jiu jitsu competitor)
I’ve been competing in jiu jitsu and mma for about 4 years now. This past year I have been training at Josh Lebsock’s MMA gym, Focus MMA. Since training with Josh I’ve been getting better at a very noticeably increased pace. I was surprised that after 3 years of training, I had come to realize there was a lot about martial arts that I didn’t know before coming to Focus MMA. Josh gives me a lot of one on one training and rolls with me more than any other instructor I’ve had. He definitely has a true passion for the game and is always eager to help others as much as possible.

Kyle Green (U of M Grad Student Sociology Dept, and jiu jitsu competitor)
To be honest, if you are looking for a place that emphasizes tradition, ritual, and recounting stories of Gracie lore, then this is probably not the MMA school to choose. However, if you are looking for a chance to improve your grappling and overall understanding of the MMA game, then this is the place. The focus on movement and posture over memorizing techniques has pushed me ahead dramatically. I had trained at a few schools before finding Focus MMA. But after just a few free classes I felt like I finally was beginning to understand why some things worked and other things did not. This has helped me react to the situation rather than getting trapped under a 300 pound wrestler while trying to remember and repeat exactly what a higher ranked person told me earlier. Perhaps most important is the instructor’s willingness to let grappling evolve and improve. In fact, the biggest compliment I can give the school is that if I miss even a week or two I feel like I have fallen behind the game, and the position that was giving everyone problems last time I was at class, simply does not work.

Jeremiah Johnson (World Kettlebell Club Certified Instructor and multiple time regional jiu jitsu champion)
I have had the opportunity to train at most of the big MMA and Jiu jitsu gyms in the Twin Cities. I can say that I have truly found a home at Focus MMA. One of the main reasons I like it so much is that Josh teaches everyone equally and doesn’t hold back. In fact sometimes he gives too much information and leaves my head spinning. Like I said, I’ve trained at pretty much every gym around and I find Focus to be the best I’ve come across. I would recommend this school to anyone interested in learninig some real martial arts or just wanting to find something fun to do to stay in shape. Thumbs up!

David Brandstrom (Loud Mouth, jiu jitsu competitor)
The instructors at "Focus" are by far the most enlightened that I have had the pleasure training with in my years in the martial arts.Their style and training methods are truly very unique. I urge anyone interested in MMA of Jiu Jitsu training to at least check out a free class. They have taken my game to a whole new level.

Wyatt Green (Collegiate wrestler and jiu jitsu competitor)
I attended Focus MMA while I was visiting in Minneapolis. My prior experience included wrestling in high school and college and 2 years of jiu-jitsu at a mix of formal and informal clubs. I made several observations during my time there: (1) There was an emphasis on a style of physical movements that was distinctly different from the more traditional clubs that I had experienced – and they seemed very effective. (2) The overall skill level of the members was quite high. (3) I was choked more in several visits than I had been in the past year. What more can you ask for? Wyatt Green

Sean Greely (Jiu jitsu competitor, 1st place NAGA Chicago)
T he " jitz" at Focus MMA, if you can even call it jiu jitsu, is truly the next level of martial arts. The only thing I've seen close to it is Eddie Bravo or Lloyd Irvin's jiu jitsu and those guys charge over 500 dollars an hour, I feel like I'm robbing the school every class take. Sean G

Micheal Lawrence (Former Pro-Body Builder)
I love the training at Focus. I'm almost 40 and have never done any martial arts before and they made me feel totally comfortable and integrated me into the program easier then I could have ever imagined. Within three months I was down to my ideal body weight and now feel like I'm carved out of stone. It's easy to stay in shape when working out is this fun and rewarding.

Ryan O'Brien (Super ninja that needs to get his butt back in class)
The best thing about the class is that it's the perfect amount of laid back and hard work. None of the pretentious martial arts, fake hiearchy and the "bow to your sensei" junk. That is replaced with a really cool "guys club" kind of feel and they don't make me dress like a karate pirate like the last school I was at. I almost lost my taste for martial arts completely until finding this class. Thank you!!!
